Y tho?
Born in 1981’s Britain, I grew up stuck fast in the culture of shell suits, mix tapes and fast moving technology. My siblings and I relished Friday and Saturday night entertainment, where the highlight was visiting the video shop to grab the latest blockbuster before all the copies had gone for the evening. This was a time where there was nothing better in life than a ride around the block on your bike with your mates, then home to chips made in a deep fat fryer, and a movie.
40 years later and I’ve realised that era has completely shaped me. From my vocab and references to the style of sunglasses and clothes I buy. I have cultivated my obsession through a growing collection of ‘vintage’ VHS which, yes, I do still watch regularly. My deep love and knowledge of retro movies made me realise I needed an outlet to connect with likeminded individuals, a space where those of us who enjoy a little nostalgia can incorporate it into our daily lives. In particular, I want to look at the clothes of the era and find ways to bring this into my modern wardrobe, but perhaps without wearing a ‘Back to the Future’ T-shirt every day.
This site takes a closer look at each beloved film, game, TV show, cartoon and everything in between, looking for angles not yet explored. Find the reason why each production has such a special place in my heart. Matching the clothes they wear, identifying the music played, recreating the food they eat. I’ll do my best to bring this to life so you can feel that little warm buzz of excitement like it’s 1983 and you’ve just bought your first NES.
So join me on this journey. Sit back, relax and let’s rewind.
